Time for some Port Fonda!

We had a great weekend enjoying this fabulous almost-fall weather, and part of that weekend including a stop for dinner at Port Fonda, the restaurant.

In case you’re not familiar, Port Fonda started out as a very popular Mexican food truck housed in an awesome Airstream trailer. As of this summer, it now has a permanent home in Westport at 4141 Pennsylvania Ave (where KC Juice used to be). They even include many local and natural ingredients in their delicious Mexican fare.

This new Westport addition is owned by chef Patrick Ryan and partner Jamie Davila and is open Tuesday through Friday, 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. and Saturdays and Sundays, 10 a.m. to 1 a.m.



We made the mistake (though we didn’t mind) of going on a Saturday evening during the Westport Air Fair which made them extra packed. We still got a spot outside pretty quickly, which ended up being perfect because of the beautiful weather.

Dinner started with some chips and salsa: "two housemade salsas, fresh, fried, corn tortilla chips".

 

Followed by Queso Fundido Especial for Erik "Green Dirt Farm bossa cheese, chorizo verde, poblana rajas, oregano, corn tortillas"



And Tacos de Calabaza for me "grilled zucchini, squash, sweet potato, salsa roja, queso fresco, cilantro, onion, lime".



Our absolute favorite part of Port Fonda is their décor and overall ambiance. One con to their Saturday night busyness and our sitting outside was that I wasn't able to get interior photos to show you all. We will certainly be back to eat inside another day, and I'm looking forward to trying some other menu items!

Westport Food Truck Festival

This past weekend was the first annual Westport Food Truck Festival, as you might remember from last week’s Share the Love & Coming up in KC post.

So here’s a tale of our Food Truck Festival festivities amidst photos!

Our plan was to go on Friday about 6 but we ended up no getting there until about 8:30.

Our favorite KC food truck, Good You, was selling a Vegan Sweet Potato & Red Bean Burrito with Chocolate Mole Sauce which I was so looking forward to.  But by the time we got there, they had sold out.  At least that means they were nice and busy!

This festival seemed to have a really good turnout, which is great. We even had to wait a few minutes to get in because the space was at capacity when we arrived.

All that being said, I think this festival is a great idea, and I’m glad its first year was successful.

I’m always on board with all things Kansas City food, and I think this event really showcased all the awesome food trucks Kansas City has to offer!

Time for another wonderful summer weekend!

• Westport Food Truck Festival: This weekend in food trucks we have The First Annual Westport Food Truck Festival. Put on by The Pitch and Boulevard, this event will be located at The Backyard at The Beaumont (4050 Pennsylvania Ave, KCMO).
  
  It will be held THIS Friday, July 8th from 5pm-12am, and Saturday, July 9th from 3pm-12am, and feature up to 20 local food trucks along with festival activities including pitchers of Boulevard Brewery beer, margaritas, DJs, bands, food demos, performers, local artisans and more. Cost is $5.00 per day. I love it when all the food trucks come together! (That last sentence is to be said in the voice of Hannibal Smith).

• Meet up:
  Erik and I are attending our first ever meet-up this Saturday with VegKC meet-up group, Kansas City’s vegan and vegetarian group. We thought it would be a fun way to meet people, and we’re eating at Eden Alley, already on my top recommended Kansas City restaurants list. We’ve never been to any meet up groups before, so it should be fun … I will report back later!

• Itzy’s Kitchen: Erica’s blog was actually the first food-related blog I found over two years ago, and is a huge reason why I started my blog. It would be hard to someone as sweet and helpful as her! The above link goes to her recent black bean burger recipe (that looks delicious!) On top of all that, she’s very close to having her first little one, and I couldn’t be happier for her!!

• Athlete’s Plate: Most simply put, Matt always has awesome healthy recipes and useful tips, and info. It also just so happens that this week I’m his featured blogger. So go check it out! Warning: you may start drinking kombucha if you stick around Matt’s blog for too long, ha.

• Eat, Live, Run’s Vegan Blueberry Almond Tart: Words really aren’t needed, this vegan tart looks way too good not to pass on!
