Speaking of purple carrots …

We just got some purple carrot seeds in the mail! Can’t wait to plant them.  What better time to give you all a little info on the history of purple carrots??

Purple Carrots

• Originally, carrots were mostly purple, red, yellow and white
• The traditional orange carrot was developed by the Dutch in the 17th Century
• It’s told that Dutch growers cultivated orange carrots as a tribute to William of Orange, who led the struggle for Dutch independence

So now you know!

We’re thinking about trying to grow these carrots indoors since we sure don’t want to wait until spring, but the package says it’s “not recommended” inside.  Hmm … we’ll see how it goes, ha.

Guess the recipe

Now I’m currently blogging as I wait for a tasty treat I just made to be ready to eat.  Let’s play a little teaser game of guess the recipe!

The ingredients used are:

 

• Agave nectar
• Coconut oil
• Water
• Cashews
• Almond butter
• Vanilla extract
• Sea salt

Okay, go! … What is it??

Hint: I’ve made it before but this is a slightly different version. I’ll be unveiling the great mystery a little later this week.

On the road again

Thanks, everyone, for all the positive feedback regarding the big change! I’m very excited for it, and can’t wait to grow as The Purple Carrot! As you can see, the URL still says lesleyliftinglife.com, but purplecarrotkc.com will get you here too.  It will actually default to purplecarrotkc.com soon, and very soon. 

And now onto our weekend.  As I’m sure many of you already know via The Purple Carrot, Facebook edition, we were in Nebraska visiting my family.  Here’s a quick photo recap.  Regular scheduled posting {whatever that is} will resume soon!

My sister let me sift through her closet of unwanted clothes this weekend and I came home with quite a stack of “new” clothes.  That’s what sisters are for after all, isn’t it??

My mom is hiding in the back of this picture.  It’s become a bit of an odd tradition of ours during picture time, ha.

The Purple Carrot

I said a change was coming, and here it is!

Lesley Lifting Life just grew up. 

It’s been in the works in my mind for quite some time now, but I was always a tad scared to make the leap.  I wanted it to be just right, something that actually captured my blog, and a decision that wasn’t made too quickly.

Things are staying the same around here, just with a different name and URL.  It’ll take me a little time to update everything,  but The Purple Carrot is here to stay!  Although purplecarrotkc.com is in order, the URL at the top still says lesleyliftinglife.com.  That will be changing very soon as well!

Why The Purple Carrot?

Over the past year or so, my blog niche and passion has really been uncovered, and Lesley Lifting Life really wasn’t suiting it. Thus, The Purple Carrot was born. Carrots in their most natural state are purple, after all! 

Just as Lesley Lifting was, The Purple Carrot is still all about these key things:

• We’re dedicated to quality sustainable foods, both local and organic. 
• Cooking up easy, delicious, & healthy food is done often together, and always enjoyed!
• As a Kansas City based blog, we love bragging about all the neat things happening in KC, both in the local food scene, and outside of it.

At The Purple Carrot, our aim is to be “where the art of real food grows”.

We live in a prepackaged, fast-paced world where food is not so much a thing of art but instead it’s plagued by a cheap convenience.

Here at The Purple Carrot, we love taking fresh, natural food that’s already beautiful and making it into something tasty! To us, this is definitely a fun and delicious form of art.
