Lulu's Thai Noodle Shop

Happy Belated Father’s Day!!

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. We didn’t do anything too exciting, got to just kind of hang out, so I’ll count that as a good thing! On Saturday around lunch time our stomachs led us to Lulu’s.  Though we already frequent Lulu’s, I realized I’ve never done an official blog post about them (other than some take out awhile ago), so I whipped out my iPhone and got to snapping … Okay, I guess I would have done that either way …

Anyways - allow me to share the deliciousness that is Lulu’s in case you’ve not been there for yourself. And if you have, you know just what I’m talking about.

Lulu’s Thai Noodle Shop

Lulu’s is located in the Crossroads at 2030 Central Street right across the street from Crossroads Coffeehouse and just down the street from the new CafĂ© Gratitude (which is in Lulu's old location).

And if it isn’t obvious already, they serve up a delicious Thai menu. Their hours are Monday - Friday: 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday: 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday: 12 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Little known fact for vegans … upon request, you can ask for a vegan menu and they will give you a list of their vegan friendly menu items. It’s quite extensive too, so you will have plenty of delicious options without feeling limited, I promise!

Erik and I got two menu items to share. First up … drunken noodles (one of our favorites!)  which consists of …

“Wide rice noodles wok-tossed with Thai basil, peanuts, bean sprouts, scallions, Chinese broccoli, lemongrass, green and red bell peppers”  You can get optional protein, but we love it with just the noodles and veggies.

Along with whas se-ew pak, which is a rice dish that consists of:

Fresh vegetables stir-fried in a sweet garlic and ginger soy sauce sprinkled with sesame seeds”.

Delicious, and delicious!

If you haven’t yet been to Lulu’s, you’re missing out. Go there, eat, and enjoy!

Little Freshie

After lunch, as per Saturday afternoon tradition, we hit up Little Freshie and walked around the Westside while enjoying our snow cones on a hot, summer day.

For Father’s Day weekend, they had a wonderful new flavor of traditional root  beer made with sassparilla, sassafrass & wild cherry bark. It was delicious!

Lulu's & Pumpkin Cashew Ice Cream

Hi!

Hope everyone is doing well! It’s getting colder and colder here in Kansas City and we even woke up to a nice dusting of snow. My parents were in town this weekend and we had fun running around on Monday doing some shopping. We ended up eating dinner Lulu’s and after a weekend full of running around, neither Erik or I felt like cooking tonight so guess what we had? More Lulu’s, ha. Yes, two nights in a row.

This time it was takeout though, so that’s different enough, right?

Anyways, we both got the drunken noodles, vegan style (basically, without egg):

I put my food on a plate, spent a little take taking photos and still finished my whole plate well before Erik finished his.

He was impressed. Or something like that.

Ha, either way … yum!

Next up … I realize pumpkin season is coming to an end and sugar cookie season is beginning, but I couldn’t help one last commemoration of pumpkins! It looks a little something like this …

pumpkin ice cream

Pumpkin Cashew Ice Cream

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup plain cashews
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup plain canned pumpkin
  • 1/2 cup agave nectar
  • 2 tablespoons melted coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt

Instructions:

  • Blend together cashews and water until smooth.
  • Add remaining ingredients, and once again blend until smooth. The mixture should be blended enough that it’s slightly creamy
  • Place in ice cream maker until thickened. My ice cream maker usually takes around 30 minutes.

Note: If you don’t have an ice cream maker, you can place the blended mixture into the freezer, stirring often, and it should produce pretty good results. It may be a tad icy depending on how often you stir it but the taste should still be delicious.

It would taste especially delicious with these delicious vegan brownies!

Yes, it’s cold outside.

But who doesn’t like ice cream all year round?

Exactly.

The end.
